This is a common question we get from dealers and knowing the answer can keep you out of trouble and your systems performing properly. While the T2x and T2i look the same, they each have a role to play in an RTI system.
The T2x is designed to be a primary room remote control when you have Audio/Video and Automation applications. Examples include Home Theaters and Family Rooms where you have multiple pages of control for everything from basic AV up to climate, lighting, shades, security, and more. If you have AV and automation, specify the T2x, not T2i!
When your need is for a touchscreen remote in a secondary bedroom for basic A/V control, you should specify the T2i. Think of the T2i as a T1-B+ with a touchscreen. With a more affordable price point, this is your secondary room A/V remote, not a primary room remote with automation.
So why do they look the same? Aesthetics and a more consistent user experience. Sell the right remote for the proper application and reduce your headaches. Your clients will thank you. If you have questions or need guidance, contact your Sales Engineer.

A great system starts with a great system design. Did you know that RTI offers FREE system design services? If you need help specifying the right RTI products for projects, our Sales Engineers are here to make you successful. Some examples:
- I’m not sure the VX44 will work in this video application, can it do CEC control?
- I have a large ranch home where I need I/O ports and control in 3 different areas, what processors can I use?
- I landed a sports bar, I need help designing a video over IP system, can you help?
The answer is YES to all of these! Many dealers call our technical support team, but these are pre-install questions, and you should contact either your Salesperson or your Sales Engineer.

Please join us in welcoming 2 new technical support staff members to the RTI team. Jonathan “Johnny” Schiller (left) and Frank Rypa (right) are powering through training (products, ID10 APEX, and the upcoming ID11) and will soon be on the phones to assist with your on-the-job site questions. Remember: If you are NOT on a job site and have product questions or design-related questions, you should be calling your salesperson or your sales engineer to keep the lines clear for dealers who are onsite and need help with troubleshooting. Who is my salesperson or sales engineer? Refer to that US Sales Team Map again, please.
